Make plans today to attend the Fall Seminar in Tuscaloosa. Jim Cunningham and Fred Molesworth are two great speakers worth seeing. Both have a wealth of information that you can take home and put to work.

If you don't care about improving your photography and your bottom line, stay at home. If you do then come to Tuscaloosa October 22-24.

Success in a World of Change Beverly Thompson, PPMA president To say that the photographic industry is changing is not only grossly understated but also overwhelming to many photographers. Cameras, computers, software, all change so rapidly. The computer has become a necessary tool. Today's digital camera becomes obsolete tomorrow as technology improves. More and more of our clients own digital cameras and are taking photographs of their children, their friends' children, or other events, such as weddings, instead of calling us. Change is inevitable in the world of photography; nothing stays the same.

The question is how do photographers keep up with this rapidly changing photographic world and maintain a successful, thriving business. That question can be answered simply, by joining local, state, and national professional associations, by getting involved, and by taking advantage of all possible opportunities to learn.

Education: Attending seminars, conventions, and other classes is another way to know what the latest trends are in photography. Keeping up to date on the development of new technology is has become crucial. Learning lighting and posing is as vital to photographers new to the business as it is refreshing to those who have been in the business for years. Implementing marketing ideas and strategies that speakers have proved successful will also contribute to success.Print competition: Entering print competition is another way to improve photographic skills. From conceiving and creating a salon print to viewing the competition and listening to judges comment on competition photographs will contribute to the skills that the successful photographer must develop.

Fellowship and Networking: Getting to know other photographers, sharing success storie, asking each other questions and helping each other solve problems and develop skills are all invaluable not only to photographers new in the business but also to a veteran photographers.

PPMA is dedicated to offering its members a variety of opportunities to become better photographers and learn how to adapt to the rapidly changing photographic industry. PPMA was very fortunate in having some of the most sought after speakers nationwide at our spring seminar. The Marvelous Monday classes that have been held in member studios across the two states have proved to be very beneficial to PPMA photographers. The annual PPMA Convention held at the Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa in Florence, Alabama, provided an exceptionally talented line up of speakers. Kevin Newsome, Jeanne Richardson, Brian White, Bennie Durham, Lori Grice all shared various techniques to improve our photographic skills as well as different strategies in improving our marketing skills. The Friday evening workshop that PPA president-elect, Jack Reznicki, held at Gib Ford's studio in Jackson, Miss. was another opportunity for PPMA members to learn more about the changing photographic industry. The PPMA Fall Seminar October 22 - 24, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama will provide yet another learning opportunity in 2006. In-depth instruction will be provided by Jim Cunningham. Jim is one of the best teachers I have seen.

Each of us can learn from the "master" teachers as we sit in seminars and programs; yet each of us can learn from each other. By listening to and helping each other, we help not only ourselves but also others along the path to success.
Sunday, October 22 through Tuesday, October 24

Jim Cunningham
Children Photography and Corel Painter

This workshop is for Portrait and Wedding Photographers who want to transform their images into works of art. Jim is a full time Photographer who feels that Painter 8 has given us the ability to take our photographic images to the next level.

There is a frustrated artist inside all of us and Painter gives us the ability to release that creative side that has been trapped for so many years. Jim will take you step by step through the creative process. You will be amazed at how quickly you will be creating images that your customers will want hanging on their walls. Join Jim and unleash your inner artist. Learn to work outside the box with someone who spends hours a day creating with Painter.

The workshop will cover:

Preparing your images in Photoshop. By doing a little pre-painter clean-up in Photoshop you can make your work in Painter go a lot smoother.

Getting familiar with Painter. Setting up the Painter pallets and getting to know the brushes you will be using. You will learn the use of layers in Painter and the art of using a cloned image.

Creating Custom Brushes with Painter. Painter IX introduced a new brush creator that gives the user the ability to modify existing brushes and create new brushes.

Creating a watercolor print. You will learn the tools used to create a watercolor print from your photographs. The best printers and watercolor papers will be covered. You will work on class images, and images you bring, to create your own style of painting. We will also print some of your images on watercolor paper.

Creating an oil painted look. The brushes and techniques used to make a print have an oil painted look are explained. Also covered are the finishing touches that will make your Painter oil look like a real oil painting.

Fine Art Landscapes. You will learn techniques on turning your landscapes and flower photographs into works of art.

Marketing Your Images. Tips and ideas on how to market and sell your Painter images.
We will be at the Four Points Hotel in Tuscaloosa
